Best of the Rest – MMA Viewing Guide

With no major promotions hosting events this weekend, viewing options for MMA fans may seem limited when in fact, there are plenty of possibilities. Let’s have a look into when and where some of the best cards are taking place, and live up to the moniker of “Fight Night Picks”!

LFA 47: Jackson vs. Jennerman – Friday at 9 pm ET on AXS TV

LFA 47 is set to take place on Friday from The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas. The main event features an interim featherweight title fight between UFC and Bellator vet (15-2-1, 1 NC) Damon Jackson and (12-3) Nate Jennerman. Both fighters share a combined 24/27 wins by finish, riding three and four fight win streaks respectively.

Up and coming prospect (8-2) Levi Mowles and LFA vet (13-6) Charles Cheeks III are set for the co-main. Mowles, 23 years old, possesses three KO/TKO, three submissions as well as two decision wins dating back to his pro debut in 2014. Cheeks III has been competing as a pro since 2011, and a veteran of seven LFA fights, including a total of six wins of 13 by submission.

EFC Worldwide 72: van Staden vs. Mazany – Saturday at 9 am ET on Facebook (Prelims) and EFC TV (Main Card)

Extreme Fighting Championship is returning to Cape Town for EFC Worldwide 72 on Saturday. With names like Jay Cucciniello, Don Madge and Dricus Du Plessis breaking through with international success, this event should be on any MMA fan’s radar. In the main event, (26-10) champ Martin van Staden looks to defend his lightweight belt against American (16-6) Dave Mazany. Mazany has fights against PFL’s Ray Cooper III and UFC’s Don Madge on his record, while the champ has had previous bouts against Du Plessis at welterweight and Brian Ebersole.

Road to M-1 USA – Saturday at 9 pm ET on FITE TV

M-1 Global’s American subsidiary is marking the promotion’s return to the States with Road to M-1 USA on Saturday from Global Mall Nashville. M-1 Challenge 30 was the last event hosted in the in the US, which marked an end to the company’s stateside expansion from 2008-2011 and included 12 cards in total.

On Saturday, Tennesseans will get to see a pair of 9-3 middleweights compete in the main event, with Bellator vet David Mundell and Douglas Usher scheduled to cap off the card. Of Mundell’s nine wins, six have come by decision whereas Usher possesses 8/9 wins by finish including seven KO/TKOs.

The co-main event features (11-4) Cuban UFC vet Yoislandy Izquierdo taking on (5-3) Russian Vadim Ogar. Ogar was on the wrong side of a 30 second KO by DWTNCS contract winner Sodiq Yusuff in August of last year, while Izquierdo went 0-2 in the UFC in 2012 with losses to Reza Madadi and Rafaello Oliveira.

RIZIN is also hosting RIZIN 12 from Nagoya, Japan on Sunday at 2 am ET. The main event features (20-6) Yusuke Yachi against unbeaten (8-0) Luiz Gustavo. You can catch RIZIN 12 on FITE TV!
