Fighting Alliance 7: Legends – Live Results

We’re live from the Lord Beaverbrook Rink in Saint John, New Brunswick bringing you Fighting Alliance 7: Legends! There are 7 scheduled fights on the card, a mixture of amateur and professional fights. Be sure to check out the event preview to get up to speed on Fighting Alliance’s promotional debut in the Port City!

Amateur debut between welterweights Tyler Algee and Scott MacKinnon

Classic jiu-jitsu and striking matchup. Quick pull of the the guard by MacKinnon and the fight’s back on the feet. MacKinnon with the takedown, and quickly pulls guard once again. Deep armbar by MacKinnon, transitions into a head and arm triangle for the win. MacKinnon in round #1, 2:55 by submission.

Amateur featherweight debut between Luc St. Croix and Brad Barrick

Overhands by Barrick, countered by St. Croix jabs. St. Croix looking for a standing rear naked, fighting out of the clinch. St. Croix trying hard for a takedown, multiple attempts. Gets the back and St Croix falls into an RNC. St Croix narrowly takes round #1 10-9

Round number two beginning with a fire fight, St Croix getting caught in a guillotine. Pops out of it and sitting in side control. Fight getting back to the clinch against the cage, Barrick with good abilities to get back up to his feet in tough situations. St Croix getting the back, aiming once again for the RNC, transitions into an armbar and loses position. Barrick working from side control, landing strikes. Another close round, Barrick slightly edging St Croix and the fight’s now 18-18.

Both fighters fresh coming out of the corners, St Croix with the leg sweep takedown. Working from rubber guard against the cage, neither fighter in any type of submission. Armbar by Barrick but not sunk. St Croix landing knees from the back sitting position. Barrick attempting to break the guard of St Croix, now working from the guard but unable to posture up. Fight ends with a flurry of strikes on the feet. St Croix narrowly edging Barrick. 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 St Croix

Amateur catchweight bout between (3-1) Jacob Palmer and (1-1) Mike Somerville

Saint John’s own Somerville fighting out of the blue corner. Both men hitting with bad intentions. Somerville with a swift judo style toss and successful takedown. Moves into guard, now full mount. Somerville landing hard shots from the top, Palmer holding him down. Somerville transitions to the back, ending the fight via rear naked choke at 1:52.

Pro featherweight bout between (1-0) Serhiy Sidey and (1-2) P.J. Ste-Marie

Ontario’s Sidey and Ste-Marie making their walks to the cage. Ste-Marie with a swift takedown attempt, working on it but not counting as a takedown. Hard elbow in the clinch by Sidey followed up by a flurry of strikes. Spinning wheel kick attempt missed by Sidey. Both working distance and landing jabs and leg kicks here and there. Ste-Marie pressing the action, not landing anything significant. Good movement by both fighters, neither giving an inch. Sidey drops Ste-Marie with a stiff jab, does not want to engage on the ground. Tough round to score, back and forth and the crowd’s loving it. 10-9 Sidey based on strikes landed.

Round #2 opens up with more of the same, Ste-Marie stalking Sidey down but unable to put together meaningful combinations. Lands a hard hook heading towards the cage, clinching. Sidey lands a hard body kick, hurts Ste-Marie. Fighter is up and backs up towards the cage, slumping down. Sidey follows up with swift ground and pound for the win. Sidey 2nd round TKO.

Co-main event between pro bantamweights (4-2) Vladimir Kazbekov and (4-1) Tyler Wilson

Kazbekov drops Wilson with a stiff right, both fighters on their feet and swinging. Kazbekov landing in every exchange, goes for a leg kick and at the same time Wilson pounces for a takedown. Hard right hand again by Kazbekov, in and out. Neither fighter truly wanting to go to the ground. Kazbekov clipping Wilson with an overhand right and two straight hooks. Wilson working hard for a takedown and unsuccessful. Now WIlson landing in the exchanges and getting a double leg takedown. Working from rubber guard, now full guard. Kazbekov winning the round 10-9.

Wilson anticipating the low kick, eyes down and throws one of his own. Both fighters gauging distance, landing one and two shots each. Wilson winning in the exchanges. Kazbekov tired from the output in the first round, getting chewed up but able to deny the takedowns. Kazbekov landing hard hooks and getting the fight to the clinch against the cage. Wilson landing knees, elbows. Wilson gets the late takedown, in half guard and ending the round on top. Fight’s now 18-18.

Kazbekov breathing heavily going into the final round, Wilson seeming to be the fresher fighter. Wilson landing a barrage of kicks and moving forward. Kazbekov working a takedown and Wilson sitting against cage. Standing, Wilson continues to land kicks. Kazbekov making a comeback, unsuccessful takedown attempt. Wilson landing knees in the clinch. Wilson ends the fight via KO knee in the clinch.

Pro lightweight contest between (1-0) Marc Hebert and (0-0) Brad Sullivan (3-1 amateur record)

NB vs. NS contest between Bouctouche’s Hebert and Halifax’s Sullivan. Hebert, the boxer, looking to close distance. Sullivan gets the double leg and moves into mount, then back to guard. Sullivan landing from the top, elbows and punches against the cage. Gets the back, working for the submission, and Sullivan winning by first round RNC.

Main event between pro featherweights (10-8) Matthew DiMarcantonio and (6-10) Dan Gibbon

Our main event between proven vets DiMarcantonio and Dan Gibbon. The Ontario product a much longer fighter, previous bouts against UFC’s Rob Font and Desmond Green. Gibbon throwing a litany of leg kicks. DeMarcantonio landing Silva-esque front kicks. Gibbon smartly taking the fight to the clinch against the cage, flipped and taken down. DiMarcantonio landing knees from the clinch and has Gibbon in a precarious position. DiMarcantonio has the back, now transitions and works a double leg takedown. Side control, DiMarcantonio working on top. DiMarcantonio lands a barrage of strikes, not enough to convince the ref to end it. DiMarcantonio at another level, 10-9 round 1.

Gibbon looking again to close distance, good body kick. DiMarcantonio heavy on his back foot, absorbing strikes but looking to set up the trademark front kick. DiMarcantonio taking the fight to the ground and working from guard. Gibbon unable to get up to his feet, referee’s seen enough and stands the fighters up. Gibbon chasing DiMarcantonio, throws a spinning wheel kick. DiMarcantonio lands a left high kick and follows it up with a stiff shot to end the fight.
